If you haven’t heard of Catfish and the Bottlemen, where have you been? This beautifully tight band have been dominating the charts with their debut album ‘Balcony’ hitting number ten, and now to celebrate they’re going on a tour around the UK and stopping off at Bristol’s Thekla.

The band is Van McCann as the lead vocalist, Billy Bibby on lead guitar, Benji Blakeway on bass and Bob Hall on drums. The group all met in the small town of Llandudno, Wales after moving there from various places around the UK, and so Catfish and the Bottlemen were born. Catfish and the Bottlemen have their own particular brand of rousing indie pop that deviates from the jangly B-town scene that seems to have dominated indie music recently.

Their songs are laced with satisfying tempo shifts from an incredibly tight rhythm section, soaring guitar solos, and a sense of depth that the B-town scene often seems to lack. As if to prove their brilliance, Zane Lowe premiered all of their singles as the hottest records in the world – but what more can I say? If you really want to get your teeth into some brilliant indie music, head on over to Thekla on the 4th of December and get your fix of the excellent Catfish and the Bottlemen.
