Leo Wood ‘Deeper Rise’ | EP Review

Leo Wood 'Deeper Rise' | Self-release | Out now.

Growing up in the Devon countryside, the now Bristol-based Leo Wood was busking by the age of five, reportedly aiming for “the cute factor”. Fast-forward through years of refining her craft and new EP ‘Deeper Rise’ is anything but — this accomplished collection of songs drifts along with complete, soulful elegance.

Lead single ‘Justification’, which was featured on BBC Introducing last month, opens on a few stray piano notes and a glitchy drumbeat, gently weaving to cast a seductive spell that leaves you hoping for more.

As far as EPs go, it’s absolutely breathtaking. The all-important question, then, is: ‘how long do we have to wait to hear a full-length? For Leo Wood, the answer is hopefully sooner rather than later.
