Lionface ‘Battle’ | EP Review

Lionface 'Battle' | Self-release | 25.09.15.

Often described as ‘battle pop’, Lionface have taken the tag to its logical conclusion with their third EP and, if the making of this record was a battle to begin with, it ended with triumphant, crowd-funded victory. More aggressive and combative from the offset, the EP definitely takes a ‘more is more’ attitude; more riffs, more layers, more urgency, and darker too.

As Kat Marsh’s already revered vocals push harder still, there’s crunching guitar work we haven’t heard from the band before, while the synths and drum-work reach all-new levels of complexity. With Battle, accessibility takes a back seat to attitude, and it’s all the better for it.
