Dirty. Sludgy. Scuzzy. 27 years on since discovering that album-spawning pedal, Mudhoney are still kicking out their trademark fuzzed out, surging punk jams; ‘undisputed kingpins’ of the original Seattle grunge sound which inspired a generation of fellow legendary bands, including Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana.

Whilst others have burnt out, Mudhoney remain the unlikely heroes of the early scene. Their latest album, ‘Vanishing Point’ proves that a refined edge to a bands sound doesn’t necessarily mean losing any of the frenetic raw energy (nor humour) that gave birth to the music. Sub Pop’s court jesters pack bruising riffs, howling misanthropy and a charming oddness.

Sure, there’s a place for reverent nostalgia here, but whether you’re a diehard 80s/90s kid who never left the scene or a latecomer to the music, Mudhoney are guaranteed to work up a frenzy, the like of which the Academy mosh pit hasn’t seen in a long time.
