O2 Academy | 18th April
Rag‘n’Bone Man aka Rory Graham kicked off his UK tour at the O2 academy, performing to a sold out crowd.
He shared the stage with two dynamic acts – Gizmo and Dan Caplen – who brought their own styles of hip-hop, R&B and soul to proceedings through their unique storytelling and lyrical abilities.
Rag’n’Bone Man opened up with ‘Wolves’ before belting out an array of his hits. Before performing ‘Skins’ we were given insight into its unlikely origins, having originally written the song based on John Stark and Ygritte from TV series Game of Thrones. He explained how their love was forbidden as they were from two different worlds and as he performed the track, his voice beamed with emotion and understanding. The crowd joined in, moving him to silence, marking it as one of the highlights of the gig.
An acoustic version of ‘Die Easy’ was performed with true grace as some well thought-out lighting created the perfect atmosphere for what was becoming an electrifying gig. As Rag’n’Bone Man returned for a three-song encore – ‘Bitter End’, ‘Human’ and ‘Hell Yer’, his sincerity and energy proved unforgettable in what’s set to be one of Bristol’s shows of the year.
