Listening to ‘Minesweeping’ is as fraught with uncertainty as its namesake suggests. There’s unease present in every nervous stutter and twitching guitar-line as fragile, tortured cries seem intent on pushing the listener over the edge.
In a split second, the eloquence of Bojak’s prose can become a seething wash of malevolence, and one that seeps from every pore. Such outbursts act as a counterpoint to their surroundings, as the band constantly wrangle with the monsters they’ve created.
No measure of malice is without melody, yet no song ever feels entirely under the band’s control and it’s this white-knuckle handling that makes ‘Minesweeping’ such a memorable LP.
