Soak ‘Before We Forget How To Dream’ | Album Review

SOAK_-_Before_We_Forget_How_To_Dream

Soak is the pseudonym of Irish singer-songwriter Bridie Monds-Watson from Derry. Her debut LP, ‘Before We Forgot How To Dream’, out on Rough Trade Records, is a lush expanse of echoed vocals, dreamy guitar patterns and subtly-driven percussion, with the gentle whirls that start up ‘My Brain’ immediately winning me over. Her voice, although distinct, is highly alluring and plainly the music’s key draw. The haunting piano/vocal harmonies of ‘Wait’ are absolutely breathtaking in particular. It’s certainly not hard to see why she was nominated for the BBC’s ‘Sound of 2015’ award. An absolutely superb record and one well worth adding to your collection.
