10th July | O2 Academy
Returning earlier this year with their first full-length album in a whole decade, titled All Nerve, The Breeders are back with the grungy thrash that embodied their game-changing debut, Pod. Assembled around Kim Deal, bassist of legendary rock band Pixies, The Breeders went on to be championed by Kurt Cobain and opened for Nirvana in 1992 during their European tour.
Yet this year, many critics have gone on to compare the first single from their comeback album, ‘Wait in the Car,’ to the dizzying heights of their 90s break-out anthem ‘Cannonball’ from their second record, Last Splash. This may not come as a complete surprise, as this is the band’s first outing in twenty-five years with the same line-up they had when they made Last Splash.
Recorded in their Ohio studio, it brings back what made the group so exciting in the first place. With a recent set in Portland clocking in at twenty-five songs over two hours, we can expect a mix of new cuts from All Nerve and hits like ‘Divine Hammer,’ ‘New Year’ and ‘Cannonball.’ It really is the best 90s reunion you could ask for. That said, their gig at the O2 Academy will be a must-see for fresh fans and the Breeders purists who want to see the real Deal.
