The Pains of Being Pure at Heart @ The Fleece, Bristol. 29.06.14.

Hailing from New York City, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have been quietly but respectably releasing music for the past eight years. It’s best to ignore their overlong and overindulgent namesake however, and instead let the music speak for itself.

Their first self-titled album was received to critical acclaim, and 2011’s ‘Belong’ secured them a dignified position away from the one trick ponies. It’s a heady blend of user-friendly dream pop; indie by nature, touched up with a wistful dash of shoegaze sensibilities and reverb-drenched abandonment. The Pains are certainly a band that don’t seem out of place amidst fellow Slumberland artists such as Veronica Falls or Joanna Gruesome.

This year sees the release of their third studio album, ‘Days of Abandon’. Subsequently, the band will be touring in support of the release, hitting the UK in June. With Brighton’s Fear of Men also on the bill – who have previously supported the likes of Veronica Falls, Frankie Rose and No Joy – their show at Bristol’s Fleece on the 29th June will certainly make for a spectacular evening.
