3rd April | O2 Academy

Off the back of the release of acclaimed forth album Combat Sports, indie heavyweights The Vaccines kick off their UK tour this Tuesday at a sold-out Academy, bringing stellar support with them.

Ever since they posed the initial question: What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? continuous pressure has been placed on the band to replicate the direct, Ramones-esque sound of their stunning 2011 debut. This is something that, to a great extent, they have continued to achieve, with hits such as the effortlessly boisterous ‘Handsome’ and the recent release’s chaotic ‘Nightclub.’

However, to accuse the London-based band of being one-trick ponies would be extremely foolish and one need look no further than the likes of irresistibly seductive fan-favourite, ‘Dream Lover’ to see this. Indeed, the latest effort of the now five-strong outfit is perhaps their most innovative yet. They acutely blend conventional Vaccines numbers, like ‘I Can’t Quit’ and ‘Surfing in the Sky’ with numerous endeavours into the unknown – ‘Young American’ and ‘Rolling Stones’. This mix is something that is sure to create an exhilarating and fascinating live spectacle.

Throw in the support of one of Britain’s finest and most important emerging talents, Dream Wife, and this unmissable gig may just be the finest that April has to offer.
