Sold-out, sweaty and intimate gigs like this are what The Wytches relish

Hurling their prophetic fury upon the Louisiana stage this December, The Wytches return to Bristol to proclaim their freshly recorded, newly released EP, ‘Thunder Lizard’s Reprieve’. After the success of debut album ‘Annabel Dream Reader’ last August, fans of the Brighton surf-doom trio will no doubt be foaming at the mouth over this latest offering. And disappoint, it does not.

Versed in dark psychedelia and heavy grunge riffs, it’s a nostalgic joy to hear the bands influences in their music; Black Sabbath, The Cramps, Nirvana; tempered with a singer-songwriter edge reminiscent of Elliot Smith. But what brings me back to this band every time is that they breed a sound all their own – a definitive stance that sees them leading a post-punk, psych revival.

Sold-out, sweaty and intimate gigs like this are what The Wytches relish with their moody, snarling performances, where they can really materialise a frenzy amongst a bated crowd. The UK tour might be drawing to a close, but things only seem to be switching up a gear for these guys and this is a chance to experience them in their element.
